In Matthew 6:33, we are told to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness
and everything else will fall into place.
What are we seeking?
What are we seeking? Is it the true depths of God or the new thing that feels good?
Are we looking for the new songs or the new message series that makes us excited?
Are we so tired of the old that we tend to jump on the new band wagon with our friends?
In Psalm 27:4, David said that there is one thing that he seeks. He desires to gaze
into the beauty of the Lord and dwell in His presence, every day of his life.
We cannot be world changers without continued personal encounters with God.
There are many things that are good, but when we find that one thing that our hearts
desire, that needs to be the focus of our life. New songs and message series are
usually good but they can’t take us where an encounter with God can take us. Encounters
with Him will give us grace and personal direction. Those kind of encounters fill
us with His essence. Song of Songs says that His name, the essence of Who He is,
is like the best of perfumes. His fragrance will follow us wherever He leads.
We cannot be world changers without continued personal encounters with God. We must
become so familiar with His love, righteousness and goodness that we are saturated
with it in our personal encounters in order to carry encounters into the world we
are charged with changing. When we know His presence in the private times, we will
recognize His presence in the public time where we will encounter opportunities
to help others experience His, love, righteousness and goodness.
When we know His presence in the private times, we will recognize His presence in
the public time.
Will we carry encounters through our prayers, declarations, songs or messages? Or
will we just mimic the new thing? Will we re-present His essence because we have
set our gaze on His beauty and have chosen to remain where He dwells?
